Funky keyboard – wicked!

snapshot of the keys

Some overly creative people have decided to create the ultimate keyboard and if it didn’t cost 1200$ I’d actually want one. Check it out, the Optimus keyboard (concept). If I can give them advice, I’d like it to be able to pick up the characters from the keyboard used, even if not official ones, as now we can modify our layouts using MKLC (and I intend to use it). I think it would be feasible to write a driver that can hook up to the system and read the current keyboard layout and the characters to map. If you could also choose the font to display it would be even sweeter. :)
No need to make the keyboard too smart, just put some userspace component that can hook up to the OS internals, read layout, rasterize bitmaps for the LED’s and shut down itself if not necessary (especially if you decide to write it in .net under windows).
